Chap. 180.—An ACT to incorporate the Silver Star Society of Sussex
county.
Approved February 15, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Alexander Winfield, Edmond Smith, Elijah Winfield, Cyrus
Parham, Theophilus Freeman, A. Sydney Winfield, and
David Marks, and such others as may be associated with
them, be and they are hereby constituted a body politic and
corporate, by the name and style of the SilverStar society, and
by that name may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded,
and do all and every act necessary to enjoy the powers con-
ferred by this charter in each and every county in this com-
monwealth, in which said society establishes a lodge.
2. The objects of the said society shall be to bury its
deceased members and aid its sick.
3. The society may hold any real or personal estate: pro-
vided the real estate does not exceed five hundred acres of
land, and the personal estate does not exceed in value the
sum of five thousand dollars.
4. The said socicty shall have the power and authority to
make and adopt a constitution and by-laws, rules, and regu-
lations for the admission and expulsion of its members and
their government, and the election of its officers, and to
define their duties, and for the safe-keeping and disburse-
ment of its funds, and from time to time to alter, amend, or
repeal such constitution, by-laws, rules and regulations: pro-
vided that the same be not inconsistent with the constitution
and laws of the United States, or the state of Virginia, and
shall be subject to amendment, alteration or modification, at
the pleasure of the general agsembly of Virginia.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap. 180.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section thirteen of chap-
ter one hundred and ninety-two of the Code of eighteen hundred and
seventy-three, as amended by an act approved March fourteen,
eighteen hundred and seventy-five, in relation to violation of sepul-
ture.
Approved February 21, 1882.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That
section thirteen, chapter one hundred and nine-two of the
Code of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, as amended by
act approved March fourteen, eighteen hundred and seventy-
eight, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
$13. If any person, unlawfully, disinter or displace a dead
human body, or any part of a dead human body, which shall
have been deposited in any vault or other burial place, he
shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and shall be confined in
the penitentiary for not less than five nor more than ten
years.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
