An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
46.1-416.1, to require the use throughout the Commonwealth of uni-
form summons in certain cases of motor vehicle law violations.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
46.1-416.1, as follows:
§ 46.1-416.1. The Attorney General, after consultation with the
Superintendent of State Police and the Commissioner of the Division of
Motor Vehicles, shall approve a form for the summons to be used in cases
of motor vehicle law violations reportable to the Division of Motor Vehicles
under the provisions of §§ 46.1-412 and 46.1-413 and such form shall be
used on and after January one, nineteen hundred sixty-nine by all enforce-
ment officers throughout the Commonwealth.
The form of such summons shall include multiple copies in sufficient
number to permit the use of one such copy by the courts for purposes
of filing abstracts of records with the Division as required by § 46.1-413
and shall be deemed to be a form prepared by the Division within the
meaning of § 46.1-414. The form of such summons shall also include
appropriate space for use in cases of violation of either State laws or
local ordinances.
