CHAPTER 669
An Act to amend and reenact §§ 68-7, 68-85 as amended, and 68-86 of
the Code of Virgwia, relating to the organization within the Depart-
ment of Welfare and Institutions and the appointment, compensation
and terms of members of certain advisory boards. CH 411]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 63-7, 63-35 as amended, and 63-36 of the Code of Virginia,
be amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 63-7. Divisions of the Department of Welfare and Institutions.—
The Director shall establish in his department separate divisions of cor-
rections, youth services, * general welfare, and administrative services.
He may establish such other divisions and regional offices as may be neces-
sary.
§ 63-35. The Governor * may appoint from nominees submitted by
the Board of Welfare and Institutions or of his own choosing an Advisory
* Board on Corrections, an Advisory * Board on Public Welfare and an
Advisory * Board on Youth Services, to consist of * five members each,
who shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor for terms coincident with
that of the Governor. Such * Boards shall act in a capacity advisory to
the Director of the Department of Welfare and Institutions and to the
Board of Welfare and Institutions on questions and problems relating to
institutions of correction, public welfare, and youth services, respectively.
In addition, the State Board may delegate such of its duties and respon-
sibilities to the Advisory Boards as to it shall seem appropriate in the
efficient administration of the Department. When requested by the Direc-
tor or the Board so to do the * Boards shall investigate such questions and
consider such problems as may be submitted to them and shall report their
findings and conclusions. The * Boards may also make recommendations
to the Director and to the State Board on their own initiative.
§ 68-36. The members of the * Advisory Boards shall receive no
salaries, but shall be paid their necessary traveling and other expenses
incurred in attendance upon meetings, or while otherwise engaged in the
performance of their duties, and shall be paid the sum of * twenty dollars
per day for each day, or portion thereof, upon which they are engaged in
the performance of their duties.
