An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Title 14.1 thereof,
a new section numbered 14.1-78.1, relating to the maximum com-
pensation of sheriffs and city sergeants.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding, in Title 14.1
thereof, a new section numbered 14.1-73.1. as follows:
§ 14.1-73.1. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this article,
the maximum compensation authorized for any sheriff or city sergeant
is Increased by twenty per centum over that authorized for the fiscal year
ending June 30, 1966. Nothing herein shall be construed to alter or affect
In any manner increases heretofore provided. ;
In fixing the salary of each of the full time deputies mentioned in
§ 14.1-73, the Compensation Board shall also take into consideration the
educational attainments of said deputies, and in particular whether he has
successfully completed the school sponsored by the Sheriffs’ and City
Sergeants’ Association held annually at State Police Headquarters, or has
received equivalent training in law enforcement in some other recognized
school for the training of law enforcement officers, or the equivalent in
experience.
