An Act to amend and reenact § 18.1-9 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to punishment for misdemeanors. 8 896)

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 18.1-9 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
follows:

§ 18.1-9. How misdemeanors punished.—A misdemeanor for which
no punishment or no maximum punishment is prescribed by statute shall
be punished by fine not exceeding * one thousand dollars or confine-
ment in jail not exceeding twelve months, or both, in the discretion of the
jury or of the court trying the case without a jury.
