An Act to amend and reenact § 18.1-82 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to setting fire to woods, fences, grass, or other things, and providing
a penalty.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 18.1-82 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
follows:
§ 18.1-82. Setting fire to woods, fences, grass, etc.—If any person
maliciously set fire to any wood, fence, grass, straw or other thing capable
of spreading fire on land, he shall be confined in the penitentiary not less
than one nor more than three years, or, in the discretion of the jury or
court trying the case without a jury, be fined not less than * one hundred
nor more than five hundred dollars and be confined in jail not less than
one (1) nor more than twelve (12) months.
