An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
88.1-848.5, relating to construction of “physician” or “doctor” in
certain insurance policies and contracts.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
38.1-348.5, as follows:
§ 38.1-348.5. Every insurance policy or contract for prepaid medical,
surgical or similar or related services, or any of such services, including,
without limitation, any policy or contract within the scope of this article,
Article 2.1 of this chapter and Chapter 11 of Title 32, shall be construed
according to the entirety of its terms and conditions as set forth in the
policy and as amplified, extended or modified by any rider, endorsement,
or application attached to and made a part of the policy; provided, how-
ever, that the word “physician” or “doctor” when used in any accident
or sickness policy, or other contract providing for the payment of medical,
surgical, or similar services shall be construed to include a dentist per-
forming such services within the scope of his professional license.
