CHAPTER 281

An Act to amend and reenact § 22-21 as amended, of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to encouragement of elementary and secondary schools.
and standards for kindergarten and nursery schools by the State
Board of Education.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 22-21 as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:

§ 22-21. Encouragement of elementary and secondary schools;
kindergarten and nursery schools.—The State Board is authorized and
required to do all things necessary to stimulate and encourage local super-
visory activities and interest in the improvement of the elementary and
secondary schools, and further the State Board may provide for the accred-
itation of elementary and secondary schools in accordance with standards
prescribed by such Board. The State Board in its discretion may recom-
mend provisions for standards for * nonpublic kindergartens and nursery
schools; provided, however, that no such nonpublic kindergarten or nursery
school shall hold itself out to the public as having been sanctioned or
approved by the State Board of Education.
