An Act to amend and reenact § 54-874 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to certain definitions in The Professional Association Act. rE 60)

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
I That § 54-874 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows
§ 54-874, Definitions.—As used in this chapter, unless a different
meaning is plainly required by context:
(1) ‘‘Associate’”’ means a member of a professional association.
(2) “Profession” means and includes the following occupations, li-
censes for the practice of which are required by provisions of Title 54 of
the Code of Virginia: Architecture, professional engineering, land survey-
ing, certified public accounting, dentistry, optometry, practice of the heal-
ing arts, * psychology, veterinary medicine, surgery and law.
(3) ‘‘Professional association” means an unincorporated association,
as distinguished from a partnership or a corporation, organized under the
provisions of this chapter for the sole purpose of carrying on a profession
as defined in (2) above.
(4) “Professional service” means any type of professional service
which may be legally performed only pursuant to a certificate or license
from a State Examining Board issued under the provisions of Title 54 of
the Code of Virginia.
