An Act to amend and reenact § 15.1-138, of the Code of Virginia, relating
to the sale of abandoned bicycles. rH 99)

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15.1-133 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows: ,
§ 15.1-13838. The governing body of any county or city may, by ordi-
nance adopted as prescribed by law, provide for the public sale of
any bicycle which has been in the possession of the Police or Sheriff’s
Department, unclaimed, for more than thirty days; and require every
owner of a bicycle, residing in the county or city, to obtain a license there-
for and a license plate or tag, of such design and material as the ordinance
may prescribe, to be substantially attached to the bicycle; and may pre-
scribe the fee to be paid for the license, the forms of applications to be
made therefor and the form of license to be issued; and may prescribe
penalties for operating a bicycle on public roads or streets within the
county or city without a license plate or tag thereto attached; and the
ordinance shall provide that the license plates or tags shall be provided
by and at the cost of the county or city. The governing body of any county
or city may provide that the license plates or tags shall be good for the
life of the bicycles to which they are attached or for such other period as
it may Airescribe and may prescribe such fee therefor as it may deem
reasonable.
