An Act to amend and reenact §§ 42-84 and 42-85 of the Code of Virginia,
relating to the State Library and the State Library Board. rH 441}

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 42-34 and 42-35 of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 42-34. Under management of Library Board; membership and
chairman.—The State Library shall be managed by a board of directors,
consisting of * nine members, * to be appointed by the Governor, * which
shall he and remain a corporation under the style of “The Library Board”,
sometimes in this chapter called the Board. The Board shall meet and
organize by electing one of its number chairman.
§ 42-35. Terms of office of members of Board; vacancies.— Within
sixty days preceding July one of the year in which the terms of office
respectively of the members of the Board expire by limitation the Gov-
ernor shall appoint to fill the vacancies so occasioned qualified persons
whose terms shall be for five years from the day on which that of their
immediate predecessors expired; provided, that of the three additional
members to be appointed when this section as amended becomes effective,
one shall be appointed for a term of four years, and his successor for a
term of five years. Appointments to fill other vacancies shall be for the
unexpired term.
No person shall be eligible to serve as a member of the Board for or
during more than two successive terms.
