An Act to amend and reenact § 18.1-158, as amended, of the Code of
Virginia, and to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section
numbered 18.1-158.1, relating to injury to or tampering with gas,
water, otl, telegraph, telephone or electric apparatus or facilities;
penalties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 18.1-158, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted, and that the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section
numbered 18.1-158.1, as follows:
§ 18.1-158. * Any person who shall intentionally destroy or damage
any oil, telegraph, telephone, electric, gas or water facility, which factlty
is used by such company to furnish oul, telegraph, telephone, electric, gas
or water service to the public, shall be guilty of a felony and shall, upon
conviction thereof, be punished by confinement in the penttentiary not
less than two nor more than ten years, provided that in the event the
destruction or damage may be remedied or repaired for one hundred
dollars or less such act shall constitute a misdemeanor.
§ 18.1-158.1. Any person who shall tamper with any metering device
encident to the facilities set forth in the preceding section, or otherwise
intentionally prevent such a metering device from properly registering
the degree, amount or quantity of such service supplied, or who shall
divert such service, excepting, however, telephonic or electronic extension
service not owned or controlled by any such company without authoriza-
tion from the owner of such facility who or which furnishes such service
to the public, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
