CHAPTER 306
An Act to transfer ownership of the Merrimac-Monitor diorama from
the Virginia Civil War Commission to the Mariners Museum.

Whereas, in nineteen hundred sixty-one the Virginia Civil War Com-
mission designated the Mariners Museum at Newport News to portray
the Civil War at sea for the Civil War Centennial, and authorized the
construction of the Merrimac-Monitor diorama; and
Whereas, the Civil War Centennial is now at a close; and
Whereas, the Mariners Museum has a substantial amount of its own
funds invested in the diorama, and, since the Civil War Commission has
no further need for same, it should become a part of the permanent
collection of the Mariners Museum; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1, $1. All right, title and interest to the Merrimac-Monitor diorama,
now titled in the name of the Virginia Civil War Commission, is hereby
transferred to the Mariners Museum in Newport News.
An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
