An Act to amend Chapter 116 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948, approved
March 5, 1948, being the charter of the city of Richmond, by adding
a section therein, numbered 8.05.1, relating to the bureau of collection,
the collector of city taxes and the city treasurer. H 251

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That Chapter 116 of the Acts of Assembly of 1948, approved March
5, ets: be amended by adding a section therein, numbered 8.05.1, as
follows:
§ 8.05.1. The council, and the city treasurer elected or appointed
by general law, shall have the power to enter into a contract consolidating
the functions of the bureau of collection and of the office of col-
lector of city taxes created by § 8.05 of this charter with the functions
of the city treasurer and providing for the performance by the city treas-
urer of all of the duties of the collector of city taxes as prescribed in that
section. For the duration of the term of any such contract, the per-
formance of the functions of the bureau of collection and of the office
of collector of city taxes prescribed by § 8.05 of this charter shall be
suspended and shall be performed by the city treasurer; and he shall have
all the powers and shall perform all of the duties conferred and imposed
upon the collector of city taxes. Should any officer or employee of the
bureau of collection become a State employee by virtue of any such con-
tract, he or she shall remain a member of any pension or retirement system
established pursuant to the provisions of this charter, provided such
officer or employee is an officer or employee and member of such pension
or retirement system on the effective date of such contract and does not
elect, in writing, within sixty days after the effective date of such con-
tract, to become a member of the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System
or any State retirement system succeeding thereto.
