_ An Act to amend and reenact § 14.1-116 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to taxing of certain fees as costs by the clerk of courts of record where
electronic devices are used to record testimony therein. aE

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
on That § 14.1-116 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 14.1-116. In any court of record in which electronic devices are
used for the purpose of recording testimony, for each case of felony tried
in his court, the clerk of such court shall tax as costs a sum not to exceed
ten dollars for each day or part of a day of the trial of such felony. In any
court of record in which electronic devices are used for the purpose of
recording testimony, for each case of misdemeanor tried in his court, the
clerk of such court shall tax as costs a sum not to exceed one dollar for each
day or part of a day of the trial of such misdemeanor. Such fees shall be
paid by the clerk into a special fund to be used for the purpose of repairing,
replacing or supplementing such electronic devices, or if a sufficient amount
7s available, to pay the purchase price of such devices in whole or in part.
For the purpose of this section, repairing shall include maintenance or
service contracts.
