CHAPTER 190

An Act to amend and reenact § 15.1-877 of the Code of Virginia, authoriz-
tng cities and towns to permit certain encroachments.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 15.1-877 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows:

§ 15.1-877. It shall be lawful for the councils or other governing
bodies of cities and towns to adopt ordinances authorizing owners of build-
ings or structures encroaching in, upon and over any public streets or
public alleys therein, within such limitations as they may prescribe, to
maintain such encroachments as they exist, * until such buildings or struc-
tures are destroyed or removed; provided, that nothing herein contained
shall be construed to relieve said owners of any negligence on their part
on account of any such encroachment.
