An Act to amend and reenact § 30, as amended, of Chapter 481 of the Acts
of Assembly 1942, approved April 7, 1942, which provided a new
charter for the city of Fredericksburg; the section relating to the
municipal court of the city, the appointment and compensation of
judges thereof, and the disposition of fines and forfeitures. g

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 30, as amended, of Chapter 481 of the Acts of Assembly of 1942,
approved April 7, 1942, be amended and reenacted as follows:
$ 30. * The judge of the circuit court of the city of Fredericksburg
shall appoint a judge and a substitute judge, and may appoint one or more
additional substitute judges of the municipal court, if in the judgment of
the city council of the city one or more associate judges are needed from
time to time for the efficient operation of the municipal court. The judge
of the circuit court of said city shall appoint such associate judge or
judges. The judge of the municipal court shall hold office for a term of
four years or until his successor is appointed and qualified. The associate,
ssistant and substitute judge or judges shall hold office for a term con-
urrent tcith that of the municipal judge, or until their successors are
ippornted and qualified.
The present judge, associate judge or assistant or substitute judge or
judges of the municipal court shall continue in office until December
thirtu-one, nineteen hundred and sixty-five, that being the end of the term
for which they were heretofore elected or appointed, but they, and the
el.rk of the municipal court shall not on and after the effective date of
this act ex officio be the judge, associate judge and assistant or substitute
tudage or judges, and clerk of the juvenile and domestic relations court
tor said city.
The salaries of the judge, associate judge and assistant or substitute
judge or judges, and the clerk of the municipal court shall be fixed by the
city council.
In any case involving the legality and validity of any ordinance of
the city of Fredericksburg, the city shall have the right of appeal to the
cireurt court of the city from any judgment or decision of the municipal
evcart.
All tines and forfeitures for the violations of city ordinances, and all
‘.42z and costs arising therefrom, together with all fines and costs from
iiolations of State laws, except that required by general law to be otherwise
paid. and all fees in civil cases shall be collected by the clerk of the
municipal court, who shall pay all moneys to the city treasurer, and State
rnes and costs shall be paid as prescribed by law. The clerk of said court
shall kee p such books and records as shall be prescribed by the city council.
