CHAPTER 16

Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
86-49.2, relating to the powers of housing authorities to purchase or
lease land for certain redevelopment projects.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
4-19.2, as follows:

§ 36-19.2. In addition to the other powers to acquire real property by
purchase or lease, an authority is specifically empowered to purchase or
lease real property for immediate or future use, without the exercise of
the power of eminent domain, for improvement and development for sale,
lease, or sublease as industrial sites, scientific research laboratory sites,
educational institution sites or sites for housing persons displaced from
other lands of the authority.

2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
