An Act to amend and reenact § 15.1-534 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to the salaries of clerks in certain counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15.1-534 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows:
§ 15.1-534. The clerks of the boards of the counties of Pulaski, Rus-
sell, Caroline, Dickenson, Essex, King George, King and Queen, Scott and
Southampton may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not
exceeding nine hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the board of the county
of Wise may, in the discretion of the board, receive a salary of not less than
nine hundred dollars and not more than twelve hundred dollars. The clerks
of the boards of the counties of Amherst, Bath, Hanover, King William,
Dinwiddie, Buchanan, * Mathews, Middlesex, Orange, Madison, South-
ampton, Brunswick, York, Charles City, Greene, James City, Tazewell
and New Kent may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not to
exceed the sum of three hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the boards
of the counties of Page, Warren and Highland may, in the discretion of the
boards, receive a salary not to exceed five hundred dollars a year. The
clerks of the boards of the counties of Accomack, Culpeper, Carroll, Floyd,
Nottoway, Gloucester, Montgomery, Prince George, * Smyth, Sussex, Gray-
son, Amelia, Bland and Lee may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a
salary not to exceed six hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the board of
Rockingham County may, in the discretion of the board, receive a salary
not in excess of eighteen hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the board of
Alleghany County may, in the discretion of the board, receive a salary not
in excess of seven hundred dollars a year. The clerks of the boards of the
counties of Patrick, Henry *, Giles and Greensville may, in the discretion
of the boards, receive a salary not in excess of twelve hundred dollars a
year. The clerk of the board of the county of Henrico shall receive a salary
in an amount determined by the board, and such salary shall be in lieu of
and in satisfaction of any compensation allowable under § 33-160. The
clerk of the board of the county of Nansemond may, in the discretion of the
board, receive a salary of not less than six hundred dollars a year, and not
more than eight hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the board of the coun-
ties of Fauquier, Surry, and Wythe may, in the discretion of the board,
receive a salary not to exceed one thousand dollars a year.
