CHAPTER 561
An Act to direct the State Library Board to have prepared and erected
a historical marker at Hanging Rock, in the county of Roanoke; and
to appropriate funds.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. The State Library Board is hereby directed to have prepared
and erected at an appropriate location at Hanging Rock, in the county
of Roanoke, a historical marker bearing substantially the following
inscription:
HANGING ROCK
On June 22, 1864, General McCausland commanding Con-
federate troops met General Hunter and his Union forces, who
were retreating from defeat by General Jubal A. Early at Lynch-
burg. The Union forces, after having some of their artillery
destroyed at Hanging Rock, continued their retreat north through
New Castle to Lewisburg.
2. There is hereby appropriated to the State Library Board out of the
general fund in the State treasury a sum sufficient, not exceeding two
hundred dollars, for the purpose hereinabove set forth.
