CHAPTER 522

An Act to amend and reenact § 46.1-229 of the Code of Virginia, relatin,
to riding or driving on sidewalks.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 46.1-229 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows:

§ 46.1-229. If any person ride or drive any vehicle, including bicycles
and motorcycles, on the sidewalks of any city or town of this State, he
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined not
less than five dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars; provided, how-
ever, that the governing body of any city having a population of more
than three hundred thousand may authorize children under fifteen years
of age to ride bicycles upon the sidewalks in certain areas of the city.
