CHAPTER 497

An Act to amend and reenact § 15.1-607 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to departments of public welfare in certain counties. CH 603}

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. P Tian § 15.1-607 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted
as follows:

§ 15.1-607. The superintendent of public welfare, who shall be head
of the department of public welfare, shall be chosen from a list of eligibles
furnished by the State Commissioner of Public Welfare. He shall have
charge of poor relief, charitable and correctional institutions and may, at
the discretion of the board of supervisors, have charge of parks and play-
grounds, and shall exercise all the powers conferred and perform all the
duties imposed by general law upon the county board of public welfare,
not inconsistent herewith. He shall also perform such other duties as may
be imposed upon him by the board of county supervisors.

A county board of public welfare shall be appointed pursuant to the
provisions of § 68-60 of the Code of Virginia.
