CHAPTER 444
An Act to amend and reenact § 37-61, as amended, of the Code of
Virginia, relating to commitment of mentally ill, mentally deficient,
epileptic or inebriate persons.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 37-61, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 37-61. Any circuit or corporation judge, or * judge of a
county or municipal court, when any person in his county 0 or city is alleged
to be mentally ill, epileptic, mentally deficient or inebriate, upon the written
complaint and information of any respectable citizen, shall issue his war-
rant, ordering such person to be brought before him. The judge * may
issue the warrant on his own motion.
In any county * containing a population of more than twenty-six
thousand but less than twenty-seven thousand inhabitants, the substitute
judge of the county court shall perform the duties of the judge of the
county court under this chapter, in the absence of such judge.
