An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding sections numbered
87-71.2 and 87-204.1, relating to treatment of persons committed to
hospitals for mental illness, mental deficiency, epilepsy or inebriacy
while appeal is pending from such commission.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding sections numbered
37-71.2 and 37-204.1 as follows: |
§ 37-71.2. Such treatment as, in the opinion of the superintendent
of any State hospital or colony or of the physician in charge of any private
institution licensed under § 37-254, is reasonably necessary to protect the
life, health, or safety of the committed person may be given within the
period allowed for any appeal provided for by § 37-71.1 unless such
treatment is enjoined by a judge of a court of record in the county or
city in which the commission is held.
§ 37-201.1. Such treatment as, in the opinion of the superintendent
of any State hospital or colony or of the physician in charge of any
