CHAPTER 301
An Act to amend Chapter 376 of the Acts of Assembly of 1988, which
provided a new charter for the town of Herndon, in the county of
Fairfax, by adding a section numbered 6-a, and to amend and reenact
§ 7 of said chapter, the new and amended sections relating, respec-
tively, to qualifications for holding office and to the election and terms
of office of the mayor, treasurer and councilmen. .

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That chapter 376 of the Acts of Assembly of 19388 be amended by
adding a section numbered 6-a and that § 7 of the said chapter be amended
and reenacted, as follows:
§ 6-a. No person otherwise eligible shall be disqualified by reason
of his accepting or holding an office, post, trust or emolument under the
United States Government, from serving as mayor or councilman, officer
or employee of the town, or as a member of any board or commission.
§ 7. The mayor, treasurer and councilmen in office at the time of
the passage of this act shall continue in office until the first day of Sep-
tember, nineteen hundred and * sixty-five, or until their successors are
elected and qualified. An election for mayor and councilmen * shall be
held on the second Tuesday in June, nineteen hundred and * sixty-five and
every second year thereafter and the mayor and councilmen * elected
under this act shall enter upon the duties of their offices the first day of
September next succeeding their election. At its first meeting after taking
office, each new council shall appoint a town treasurer who shall serve for a
term of two years or until his successor 1s appointed and qualified.
