CHAPTER 274
An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
89-4.1 authorizing certain judges to regulate the sitting of justices
of the peace.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
39-4.1, as follows:
§ 39-4.1. In any county having a population in excess of two hun-
dred fifty thousand inhabitants, the senior judge of the circuit court of
the county may, by order, regulate the place and time of sitting of all
justices of the peace of the county, whether appointed or elected; except
that no assignment may be made of an appointed justice of the peace
without first offering such assignment to the elected justices of the peace;
and providing, further, that all elected justices of the peace shall be given
a regular turn at service if such justices of the peace desire to serve.
