An Act to amend and reenact § 58-806, as amended, of the Code of
Virginia, relating to wholesale merchants’ license taxes. rH 260]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia
l. That § 58-306, as amended, of the Code of Vieginis, be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 58-306. Amount of tax.—For every license to a person, firm or
corporation engaged in the business of a wholesale merchant, the amount
bo be paid shall be as follows:
If the amount of purchases throughout the then next preceding calen-
dar year did not exceed ten thousand dollars, the amount shall be fifty
dollars; when such purchases exceed ten thousand dollars, the amount
shall be fifty dollars on the first ten thousand dollars, and thirteen cents
on every one hundred dollars upon all in excess of ten thousand dollars;
provided, however, that for the license year beginning January first, nine-
teen hundred and sixty-six, and for the license year beginning January
first, nineteen hundred and sixty-seven, the amount to be paid shall be fifty
dollars on the first ten thousand dollars of purchases, and ten cents on
every one hundred dollars upon all in excess of ten thousand dollars; and
provided, further, that for the license year beginning January first, nine-
teen hundred and sixty-eight, and for every license year thereafter, the
amount to be paid shall be fifty dollars on the first ten thousand dollars of
purchases, and five cents on every one hundred dollars upon all in excess
of ten thousand dollars; and provided, further, that no city, town or
county may exceed the State rate of five cents per hundred herein pro-
vided, except in those localities where the local rates are above the State
rates, such localities are hereby prohibited from increasing such rates in
effect on January 1, 1964.
