An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22-
83.2 providing for terms of office of certain county school boards; and
validating certain appointments as members of such boards. rH 448]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
22-83.2 as follows: ,
§ 22-83.2. (a) In any county having the county executive form of
government and a population of more than two hundred thousand, not-
withstanding the provisions of § 22-80 or any other provision of law to
the contrary, the terms of the members of the county school board in
office shall be for two years, except as hereinafter provided.
(b) The governing body of any such county shall fix terms for mem-
bers of the county school board in office on the effective date of this act so
that the terms of three members shall expire December thirty-one, nine-
teen hundred sixty-four and the terms of four members shall expire De-
cember thirty-one, nineteen hundred sixty-five. Thereafter, members shall
be chosen for terms as provided in subsection (a) of this section; provided
that such governing body shall have the power to fill vacancies occurring
other than by expiration of term for the unexpired term.
(c) Any action by the governing body of a county specified in this sec-
tion prior to the effective date of this section and in conformity herewith
is hereby validated, ratified and confirmed.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
