An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered
20-87.1, relating to the authority of the Department of Welfare and
Institutions to obtain information from all departments, boards,
bureaus or other agencies of this State, pertaining to the identity and
whereabouts of any person owing or asserted to be owing support to
any dependent; and to whom such information is to be made available
by the Department of Welfare and Institutions. rH 284]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding a section numbered
20-87.1 as follows:
§ 20-87.1. To assist in locating parents who have deserted their
children and other persons liable for support of dependents, the Depart-
ment of Welfare and Institutions may request and shall receive information
from the records of all departments, boards, bureaus or other agencies
of this State and the same are authorized to provide such information
as is necessary for this purpose. Only information directly bearing on the
identity and whereabouts of a person owing or asserted to be owing an
obligation of support shall be requested and used or transmitted by the
Department of Welfare and Institutions pursuant to the authority con-
ferred by this section. The Department of Welfare and Institutions may
make such information available only to public officials and agencies of
this State, other states and the political subdivisions of this State and
other states seeking to locate parents who have deserted their children
and other persons liable for support of dependents for the purpose of
enforcing their liability for support.
