An Act to amend and reenact § 18.1-354, as amended, of the Code of
Virginia, relating to dance halls and regulation and operation thereof
in counties, cities and towns.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 18.1-354, as amended, of the Code of Virginia, be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 18.1-354. (a) The governing body of any county, city or town
may, by ordinance, regulate licensed public dance halls as defined in
§ 18.1-351 by prescribing the hours and times during which such licensed
dance halls shall not be kept open or operated in such county, city or town.
(b) The governing body of any county, city or town may, by ordi-
nance, regulate dance halls in such county, city or town in lieu of the pro-
visions of §§ 18.1-350 through 18.1-352. Such ordinance shall prescribe for
the issuance of permits to operate dance halls, grounds for revocation and
procedure for revocation of such permits, prescribe a license tax not incon-
sistent with the provisions of § 18.1-853 and shall prescribe rules and
regulations for the operation of such dance halls. No county ordinance
under the provisions of this section shall be in effect in any town in which
an ordinance under the provisions of this section is in effect.
Any county may prescribe the punishment for violations of ordinances
adopted pursuant to this section or § 18.1-353.
