CHAPTER 592
An Act to confer upon the State Highway Commissioner the power of
eminent domain for the purpose of acquiring certain lands to provide
access roads to points of scenic beauty or public interest from the Blue
Ridge Parkway and to provide for the transfer thereof to or for the
United States of America.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That in addition to the powers and authority conferred by
Chapter 42, Acts of nineteen hundred thirty-four; Chapter 8, Acts of
nineteen hundred thirty-six; Chapter 163, Acts of nineteen hundred thirty-
six; Chapter 389, Acts of nineteen hundred thirty-eight and subject to the
limitations of Chapter 382, Acts of nineteen hundred thirty-six, the State
Highway Commissioner is hereby authorized to acquire such roadways and
rights of way as in his discretion are desirable to provide access from the
Blue Ridge Parkway, formerly known as the Shenandoah-Great Smoky
National Parkway, to points of scenic beauty or public interest located
within the Commonwealth. The State Highway Commission is hereby
authorized and empowered to add such roadways to the State highway sys-
'§ 2. The State Highway Commissioner is hereby authorized out of
moneys now or hereafter provided for highway purposes to acquire by
gift, purchase, condemnation or otherwise pursuant to the provisions of
§§ 33-57 through 33-75, including the powers provided by § 33-70.1 et
seq., of the Code of Virginia such rights of way and roadways as provided
in § 1 hereof.
§ 8. The said State Highway Commissioner is hereby authorized
and empowered by and with the approval of the Governor to transfer,
assign and convey at one time or from time to time by general warranty
deed or deeds to the United States of America, or any department, bureau,
board or commission or official thereof who will agree to construct or im-
prove a roadway thereon the said land or lands or any part thereof em-
braced in said highway and upon such conveyance or conveyances the land
conveyed shall cease to be a part of the State highway system subject to
the further specific provisions of § 3, Chapter 3 of the Acts of nineteen
hundred thirty-six.
8 4. All acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby
repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
