CHAPTER 563
An Act to define the term “freeholder’ with respect to certain elections;
and to provide for freeholder to vote on issue of bonded indebtedness.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. In any election held to determine whether a debt shall be cre-
ated in anticipation of the collection of the revenue or to redeem a pre-
vious liability of any political subdivision of the State, the term ‘“free-
holder’? means any person owning real estate of the assessed value of one
hundred dollars or more as shown on the land assessment books of said
political subdivision. For the purposes of this section, husbands and wives
holding such real estate as tenants by the entireties with the right of
survivorship both shall be deemed to be freeholders. And it is further
provided that in any such election a majority vote of such freeholders
participating in such election shall be necessary for the approval of the
same.
