An Act to amend and reenact § 15-414 of the Code of Virginia, as
amended, relating to attorneys and assistant attorneys for the Com-
monwealth for cities.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15-414 of the Code of Virginia, as amended, be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 15-414. In every city, so long as it has a corporation court or a
separate circuit court, there shall be elected, for a term of four years, by
the qualified voters of such city, an attorney for the Commonwealth, who
shall also, in those cities having a separate circuit court, be the attorney
for the Commonwealth for such circuit court. * Assistant attorneys for
the Commonwealth for cities having a population of more than two hundred
thousand may be appointed by the attorney for the Commonwealth for such
city after having first received approval of the governing body of such
city and of the Compensation Board for a term of office coterminous with
his own, who shall receive such compensation as shall be fixed in the
manner provided by law. All assistant attorneys for the Commonwealth
shall perform such duties as are prescribed by their respective attorney for
the Commonwealth. The office of assistant attorney for the Common-
wealth, heretofore created and provided for in the charters of such cities
is hereby abolished.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
