CHAPTER 449

An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding thereto a section num-
bered 54-276.9, providing certain exemptions for emergency care by
doctors of medicine.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding thereto a section
numbered 54-276.9 as follows:

§ 54-276.9. No person licensed to practice medicine in this State,
who in good faith renders emergency care to any person injured as a
result of a roadside or highway accident, at the scene of such accident,
shall be liable for any civil damages as a result of any act or omission in
rendering such emergency care; provided, however, that no established
doctor-patient relationship between practitioner and injured person pre-
existed such emergency treatment.
