CHAPTER 191
An Act to amend and reenact § 5 of Chapter 338 of the Acts of Assembly
of 1928, approved March 21, 1928, being the charter of the town of
Luray, the section relating to election of the mayor, councilmen and
justice of the peace of said town.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section five of Chapter three hundred thirty-eight of the Acts of
Assembly of nineteen hundred twenty-eight, approved March twenty-one,
nineteen hundred twenty-eight, be amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 5. * At the regular municipal election to be held on the second
Tuesday in June, nineteen hundred sixty-three, the Mayor, six Council-
men and a Justice of the Peace shall be elected. The Mayor shall be elected
for a term of four years beginning on the first day of September succeed-
ing his election and every four years thereafter.
The Justice of the Peace shall be elected for a term of two years be-
ginning on the first day of September next succeeding his election and every
wo years thereafter.
The three Councilmen, each of whom has received more votes in said
election than any of the other three members, shall serve as members of
the Council for a term of four years each; and the remaining three mem-
pers shall serve for a term of two years each.
At the regular municipal election to be held on the second Tuesday in
June, nineteen hundred sixty-five, and on the second Tuesday of June every
two years thereafter, three Councilmen shall be elected for terms of four
years each. Terms of office of all elected officials shall begin on the first
day of September, next following their election and each shall serve for the
term stated or until his successor has been elected and qualified.
The Council shall be a continuing body, and no measure pending be-
fore such body shall abate or be discontinued by reason of expiration of
the term of office or removal of the members of said body or any of them.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
