An Act to amend and reenact § 15-289, as amended, of the Code of Virginia,
relating to the salaries of clerks in certain counties. 8 471

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15-239, as amended, of the Code of Virginia, be amended and
reenacted as follows: |
§ 15-239. The clerks of the boards of the counties of Pulaski, Russell,
* Caroline, Essex, King George, King and Queen and Southampton may,
in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not exceeding nine hun-
dred dollars a year. The clerk of the board of the county of Wise may, m
the discretion of the board, receive a salary not less than nine hundred
dollars and not more than twelve hundred dollars. The clerks of the boards
of the counties of * Amherst, Bath, Hanover, King William, * Dinwiddie,
Lee, Buchanan, * Surry, Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, Orange, Madi-
son, Southampton, Brunswick, Greensville, * York, Charles City, Greene,
James City and New Kent may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a
salary not to exceed the sum of three hundred dollars a year. The clerk
of the boards of the counties of Page, * Warren * and Highland may, in the
discretion of the boards, receive a salary not to exceed five hundred dollars
a year. The clerks of the boards of the counties of Accomack, Culpeper,
Carroll, Dickenson, Nottoway, Montgomery, Prince George, Sussex, Gray-
son, * Amelia and Scott may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a
salary not to exceed six hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the board of
Rockingham county may, in the discretion of the board, receive a salary
not in excess of eighteen hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the board
of Alleghany county may, in the discretion of the board, receive a salary
not in excess of seven hundred dollars a year. The clerks of the boards of
the counties of Patrick, Henry and Giles may, in the discretion of the
boards, receive a salary not in excess of twelve hundred dollars a year. The
clerk of the board of the county of Henrico shall receive a salary in an
amount determined by the board, and such salary shall be in lieu of and in
satisfaction of any compensation allowable under § 33-160.
2. An-emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
