An Act for the relief of James M. Settle.

Whereas, James M. Settle was clerk of the Circuit Court of Rappa
hannock County on November fourteen and fifteen, nineteen hundred fifty.
nine; and
Whereas, the Clerk’s office of the Circuit Court of Rappahannock
County was broken into and the sum of seven hundred eighteen dollars anc
nineteen cents was stolen from the safe therein on one of the above statec
dates in the nighttime; and .
Whereas, every court clerk is responsible for the funds held by him ir
an official capacity regardless of whether such funds may have been stolen
and
Whereas, James M. Settle has obtained from private sources, the surr
of six hundred ninety-six dollars and ninety-five cents, and replaced the
funds stolen as above stated and made a proper accounting therefor; now
therefore, oo
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated from the general fund of the State treas.
ury the sum of six hundred ninety-six dollars and ninety-five cents to be
paid to James M. Settle on warrant of the Comptroller drawn on the State
Treasurer in payment of the loss which James M. Settle has sustained
upon proof of such loss. -
