An Act to amend and reenact § 51-181 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to transfer of credits and contributions to State Police Retirement
System.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 51-131 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
follows:
§ 51-1381. (a) If any State police officer is a member of the retire-
ment system provided for by the Virginia Retirement Act, his prior service
credits and accumulated contributions under that retirement system shall
be transferred to his credit under the system provided for by this chapter.
(b) Any State police officer who elected not to be included in member-
ship of the Virginia Retirement System, upon becoming a member of the
system provided for under this chapter as of July one, nineteen hundred
fifty, shall be credited with his period of regular employment as a State
police officer prior to July one, nineteen hundred forty-two, but not for
the period between that date and July one, nineteen hundred fifty ; provided,
that any such officer who rejected membership in the Virginia Rettrement
System may be credited with his period of employment as such officer
between July one, nineteen hundred forty-two and July one, nineteen
hundred fifty upon payment of the contributions which he would have patd
had he been a member of the System during such period, plus 2% interest
thereon compounded annually from the end of each respective fiscal year
to which the contribution applies to the first day of the month during
which payment 1s made.
(c) The term “State police officer’, as used in this section, shall in-
clude service as an inspector of the Division of Motor Vehicles prior to
July one, nineteen hundred thirty-two.
