An Act to authorize the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Museum of
Fine Arts to institute proceedings in the Circuit Court of the City
of Richmond for the transfer of certain real and personal property,
known as “The Gari Melchers Memorial’ and the endowment funds
established for the support thereof, to the Rector and Visitors of the
University of Virginia for the benefit of Mary Washington oie

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. The Board of Trustees of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is
hereby authorized to institute a proceeding in the Circuit Court of the
City of Richmond, Virginia, to secure the approval of the Court for the
transfer to the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia of the
property, real and personal, known as “The Gari Melchers Memorial”, and
the endowment funds established for the support thereof, conveyed to the
Commonwealth by Corinne Lawton Melchers by deed of gift dated Febru-
ary seventeen, nineteen hundred forty-two, accepted by the Commonwealth
by Chapter four hundred thirty-seven of the Acts of Assembly of Vir-
ginia, nineteen hundred forty-two, and by the last will and testament of
Corinne Lawton Melchers and codicils thereto; and upon securing the
approval of the Court for such transfer, the Board of Trustees of the
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts shall transfer said property to the Rector
and Visitors of the University of Virginia to be administered by it in
connection with its operation of Mary Washington College.
§ 2. If the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, Virginia, ap-
proves the transfer of “The Gari Melchers Memorial’ and the endowment
funds established for the support thereof from the Board of Trustees of
the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to the Rector and Visitors of the
University of Virginia, the Rector and Visitors of the University of
Virginia is authorized to accept such property on behalf of Mary Wash-
ington College, and in lieu of the Board of Trustees of the Virginia
Museum of Fine Arts, shall manage, control, operate, and maintain the
same for the purposes and in accordance with the conditions imposed by
the deed of gift dated February seventeen, nineteen hundred forty-two,
from Corinne Lawton Melchers to the Commonwealth of Virginia, the
provisions of Chapter four hundred thirty-seven of the Acts of Assembly
of Virginia, nineteen hundred forty-two, and the provisions of the last
will and testament of Corinne Lawton Melchers and codicils thereto.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
