An Act to amend and reenact § 8-270 of the Code of Virginia, relating
to proof of statutes of the United States and other states and proof
of ordinances of political subdivisions of this State. ne ann]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
te That § 8-270 of the Code of Virginia be amended and reenacted as
ollows:
§ 8-270. Copies of the statutes of the United States, printed by
authority of the United States, and copies of the statutes of any state or
territory of the United States, printed by authority of such state or terri-
tory, may be received as prima facie evidence of such statutes in any suit
or proceeding in this State.
A copy of any ordinance or joint resolution of a municipal corpora-
tion or county in this State, certified by the clerk or secretary of the cor-
poration or county, or a printed copy thereof which purports to have been
printed by the authority of the corporation or county, shall be received as
prima facie evidence for any purpose for which the original ordinance or
joint resolution could be received. As used in this section, the term
“municipal corporation” shall include a city or incorporated town. As
used in this section, the term ‘‘clerk’”’ shall include the clerk of the circuit
court or the clerk of the governing body of the political subdivision.
