An Act for the relief of Norfolk General Hospital.

Whereas, one Gordon S. Thompson was shot by a private night watch-
man while in the act of committing burglary in the nighttime and fatally
wounded; and oo,
Whereas, the Norfolk General Hospital, a charitable institution, re-
ceived Gordon S. Thompson as a patient, and the sum of two thousand six
hundred sixty-three dollars and eighteen cents was expended by said
hospital in a futile effort to save his life; and .
Whereas, every effort on the part of the hospital, including a civil
suit, has been unsuccessful in collecting the said two thousand six hundred
sixty-three dollars and eighteen cents and as a result thereof, the assets of
the hospital have been reduced accordingly ; and
Whereas, it is proper that the Norfolk General Hospital be compen-
sated for the loss which it has sustained; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. The State Treasurer is directed to pay to the Norfolk General
Hospital for services rendered the Commonwealth of Virginia in connec-
tion with the hospitalization of Gordon S. Thompson, charged with the
commission of a felony, the sum of two thousand six hundred sixty-three
dollars and eighteen cents. Such payment shall be made upon the verified
statement of said hospital, itemizing the nature of the services rendered
and the charge made for such items, which shall be filed with the State
Comptroller.
Any payments made under the provisions of this act shall be upon the
warrant of the State Comptroller and shall be paid out of the appropria-
tion for criminal charges. |
