An Act to amend and reenact § 15-237, as amended, of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to duties of county clerks.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15-237, as amended, of the Code of Virginia, be amended
and reenacted as follows:
§ 15-237. The county clerk shall be ex officio clerk of the board of
supervisors. It shall be his general duty:
(1) To record in a book to be provided for that purpose all the
proceedings of the board.
(2) To make regular entries of all their resolutions and decisions
on all questions concerning the raising of money; and within five days
after any order for a levy is made, to deliver a copy thereof to each
commissioner of the revenue of his county.
(3) To record the vote of each supervisor on any question sub-
mitted to the board, if required by any member present.
(4) To sign all warrants issued by the board for the payment of
money, and to record, in a book provided for the purpose, the reports
of the county treasurer of his receipts and disbursements.
(5) To preserve and file all accounts acted upon by the board, with
their actions thereon; and he shall perform such special duties as are
required of him by law.
In the county of Augusta the board of supervisors shall have the
power to elect for a term of two years someone other than the county
clerk as clerk of their board and to fix the compensation to be allowed
such clerk.
The board shall by proper resolution prescribe the duties of such
clerk which shall be in addition to his duties as prescribed by law.
The governing body of any county having a population of more than
twenty-four thousand six hundred but not more than twenty-six thou-
sand five hundred may, by resolution duly adopted, relieve the clerk of
such county of his or her duties as clerk, ex officio, of such governing
body. Whenever such resolution shall have been duly adopted such
governing body shall elect someone other than the clerk of such county
as clerk of the governing body to serve at the pleasure of the governing
body and shall fix the compensation to be allowed such clerk in heu of
the salary allowed by § 15-238 of the Code. Such governing body also
shall, by resolution, prescribe the duties of such clerk.
