CHAPTER 337
An Act to appropriate certain sums of money in aid of certain Confederate
Memorial Associations and organizations of the United Daughters of
the Confederacy in Virginia, to be used in caring for Confederate ceme-
teries and graves of Confederate soldiers and sailors not otherwise
cared for and in erecting and caring for markers and monuments to
such soldiers and sailors.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. A sum sufficient, estimated at fifteen thousand dollars, or so much
thereof as may be needed, is hereby appropriated out of any money in the
general fund of the State treasury, not otherwise appropriated, for each
year of the biennium ending June thirtieth, nineteen hundred sixty-two,
which amounts so appropriated annually shall be in lieu of all other appro-
priations out of the State treasury for the same purposes, and the Comp-
troller of the Commonwealth is instructed and empowered to draw war-
rants upon the State Treasurer annually in favor of the treasurers of the
following Confederate Memorial Associations and chapters of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy for the following sums of money payable
out of these annual appropriations, to be by their respective associations
and organizations expended in caring for Confederate cemeteries and
graves therein and graves of Confederate soldiers and sailors not other-
wise cared for in other cemeteries, and in erecting and caring for markers,
memorials, and monuments to the memory of said soldiers and sailors; and
the said associations and organizations, through their proper officers are
hereby required to settle their accounts annually with the Comptroller of
the Commonwealth by reports on official forms accompanied by all
vouchers. These reports shall show the exact work done in caring for
cemeteries herein specified and the graves of Confederate soldiers and
sailors and in erecting and caring for markers, memorials and monuments
to the memory of said soldiers and sailors, showing the money expended
and the balance in the treasury of each said association and organization.
These accounts shall be acknowledged before a commissioner in chancery,
a notary public, or a clerk of the court.

Provided however, that if in any county or city hereinbefore named
there is no Confederate Memorial Association or Chapter of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy, the amount hereby appropriated for such
county or city shall be expended for purposes hereinbefore specified,
by a Confederate Memorial Board of three, appointed by the Judge of
the Circuit Court. The treasurer of such board shall report to the State
Comptroller according to requirements of this act.
