CHAPTER 160
An Act to amend chapter 588 of the Acts of Assembly of 1950, approved
April 7, 1950, which provided a charter for the town of Purcellville by
adding sections numbered 20.1 through 20.4, to provide for appoint-
ment, jurisdiction and compensation of issuing justices.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That chapter 538 of the Acts of Assembly of nineteen hundred fifty,
approved April seven, nineteen hundred fifty, be amended by adding sec-
tions numbered 20.1 through 20.4 as follows: oe
§ 20.1. There is hereby created the office of issuing justice for the
town of Purcellville. -,
§ 20.2. The council may appoint not later than its first meeting in
September, nineteen hundred sixty, for the term to expire September one,
nineteen hundred sixty-one, and thereafter the council may appoint at
its first regular meeting in September nineteen hundred sixty-one and
its first regular meeting in September every two years thereafter for
terms of two years each, unless sooner removed by the council upon proven
charge preferred for malfeasances, misfeasances, neglect of duty, or in-
competence, two issuing justices who are qualified electors of the town
and who already may be employees or officers of any department of the
town, and who shall hold office until their successors are appointed and
qualified.
§ 20.3. The issuing justices so appointed shall have power to issue
warrants for violations of town ordinances; the power to issue subpoenas
or other processes the same as could be issued by the police justice and
the power to admit to bail in any case where the police justice could admit
to bail, but any warrant, summons or process issued by such issuing jus-
tices for violation of a town ordinance shall be returnable before the mayor
of the town.
. Any vacancy may be filled by the council of the town for the unexpired
erm.
§ 20.4. Compensation shall be paid to any such issuing justices by
the town as provided by the council. All costs collected shall be paid into
the town treasury.
