An Act to amend and reenact § 15-289, as amended, of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to salaries of the clerks of the boards of supervisors
of certain counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 15-239, as amended, of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 15-239. The clerks of the boards of the counties of Pulaski and
“Wise may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not exceeding
nine hundred dollars a year. The clerks of the boards of the counties of
‘Accomack, Amelia, Amherst, Bath, * Hanover, King William, Highland,
Dinwiddie, Lee, Buchanan, Russell, Prince George, Surry, Gloucester,
Mathews, Middlesex, Orange, Madison, Southampton, Brunswick, Greens-
ville, Sussex, York, Charles City, Greene, James City and New Kent may,
in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not to exceed the sum of
three hundred dollars a year. The clerk of the boards of the counties of
Page and Warren may, in the discretion of the boards, receive a salary not
‘to exceed five hundred dollars a year. The clerks of the boards of the
counties of Culpeper, Carroll, Dickenson, Nottoway, Grayson, King George,
Caroline, Essex, King and Queen, Scott and Giles may, in the discretion
of the boards, receive a salary not to exceed six hundred dollars a year.
The clerk. of the board of Rockingham County may, in the discretion of
the board, receive a salary not in excess of eighteen hundred dollars a year.
The clerk of the board of Alleghany County may, in the discretion of the
board, receive a salary not in excess of seven hundred dollars a year. The
clerk of the board of the county of Henrico shall receive a salary in an
amount determined by the board, and such salary shall be in lieu of and
in satisfaction of any compensation allowable under § 33-160.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
