An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Chapter 16 of Title 8
thereof an article numbered 7.1, containing sections numbered 8-816.1
through 8-816.4, to compel attendance of witnesses within this State
for the purpose of taking depositions to be used in any foreign juris-
diction; to provide for judicial interpretation of such chapter; and to
repeal certain acts.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia be amended by adding in Chapter 16 of
Title 8 thereof an article numbered 7.1, containing sections numbered
8-8316.1 through 8-316.4 as follows:
Article 7.1
Uniform Foreign Depositions Act
§ 8-316.1. Whenever any mandate, writ or commission is issued out
of any court of record in any other state, territory, district or foreign
jurisdiction, or whenever upon notice or agreement it is required to take
the testimony of a witness or witnesses in this State, witnesses may be
compelled to appear and testify in the same manner and by the same
process and proceeding as may be employed for the purpose of taking
testimony in proceedings pending in this State.
§ 8-316.2. This chapter shall be so interpreted and construed as to
effectuate its general purposes to make uniform the law of those states
which enact it. The privilege extended to persons in other states by §8-316.1
ae apply to those states which extend the same privilege to persons
in a
§ 8-316.8. This chapter may be cited as the Uniform Foreign Depo-
sitions Act.
§ 8-816.4. All acts or parts of acts which are inconsistent with the
provisions of this chapter are hereby repealed to the extent of such
inconsistency.
