CHAPTER 539

AN ACT to authorize the State Board of Education to make adjustments
in its allocations of funds appropriated to it by law and providing that
the State Board of Education may allocate certain amounts to certain
cities in the equalization of teachers salaries.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The State Board of Education is hereby authorized in the follow-
ing case only to make such adjustments in its allocations from funds
appropriated to it by law for the purpose of equalizing the salaries of
teachers employed in efficient elementary and secondary schools as defined
by law as it deems necessary: i.e., any city which for the first time com-
mences operation of efficient elementary and secondary schools on July 1,
1958 shall receive such amount from item 141 of the 1958 Appropriation
Act as may be determined by the State Board of Education, and the State
Board of Education is authorized to make such adjustments in its alloca-
tions to the county in which such city is located as may be necessary to
carry out the purpose of this Act.
