An Act for the relief of Mrs. Ethel Jorden.

Whereas, Carl Thompson was a patient at the Lynchburg State Colony
on July 13, 1954, and was entirely dependent upon the care of other
persons; and
Whereas, during the course of his care and treatment he was im-
mersed in extremely hot water, thus causing extensive burns which resulted
in his death; and,
Whereas, Mrs. Ethel Jorden, the mother of Carl Thompson, through
the negligence or failure to use due care on the part of the Lynchburg
State Colony to control or regulate the temperature of the water used for
bathing patients, has sustained a loss in the death of her son, Carl
Thompson, and she is without remedy at law to compensate her for the
death of her son; now, therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. There is hereby appropriated out of the general fund in the State
Treasury the sum of one thousand dollars to be paid to Mrs. Ethel Jorden
by check of the State Treasurer issued on warrant of the Comptroller.
Simultaneously with the payment aforesaid, Mrs. Ethel Jorden shall
enpente ore deliver a complete and absolute release to the Commonwealth
of Virginia.
