AN ACT to amend and reenact § 22-204, as amended, of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to the certification of teachers. .

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 22-204, as amended, of the Code of Virginia, be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 22-204. No teacher shall be regularly employed by a school board
or paid from the public funds unless such teacher holds a certificate in full
force in accordance with the rules of certification laid down by the State
Board of Education; provided that any teacher, holding a degree from a
four-year accredited college or university, whether in a public or private
school, who acquires two years of teaching experience which is certified to
be satisfactory by a division superintendent as to public schools, or by a
principal or equivalent officer as to private schools, shall be deemed to
have met requirements for having the Collegiate certificate raised to
Collegiate Professional, without being required to take more than nine
semester hours in professional education, which hours may be waived or
appropriately modified in the administrative discretion of the State Super-
intendent of Public Instruction upon the recommendation of the division
superintendent of schools, or the chief administrative officer of a private
school; and provided, that, in accordance with regulations prescribed by
the State Board of Education a person not meeting the requirements for
such certification may be employed and paid from public funds by a school
board temporarily as a substitute teacher to meet an emergency.
AN ACT to amend and reenact §§ 22-285 and 22-286 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to school bus insurance. (S209)

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 22-285 and 22-286 of the Code of Virginia be amended and
reenacted as follows:
§ 22-285. (1) Every vehicle so used shall be covered in a policy of
public liability and property damage insurance, issued by an insurance
carrier authorized to transact business in this State, in the amounts of
at least * fifteen thousand dollars for injury, including death, to one person,
* one hundred thousand dollars for injury, including death, to all persons
injured in any one acident, and five thousand dollars for damage, including
destruction, to the property of any person, other than the insured.
(2) The insurance so effected is to be subject to all laws of this State
regulating insurance.
(3) This insurance is not required in cases when pupils are trans-
ported on a common carrier if it be covered by a policy of insurance af-
fording substantially the protection required by this article.
§ 22-286. In any case in which a vehicle used for transportation of
school pupils and personnel regularly transports less than ten pupils
the policy of insurance may be in amounts of (1) * fifteen thousand dollars
for injury, including death, to one * person, (2) * fifty thousand
dollars for injury, including death, to all persons in any one accident,
(3) one thousand dollars for damages, including destruction, to property
of any person except that of the insured, and shall be subject to other pro-
visions of this article.
