CHAPTER 230
AN ACT to provide for establishment of a special police force in certain
counties.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. §1. The governing body of any county which adjoins a city having
a population of more than thirty-five thousand but less than forty thousand
and having located therein a Hustings Court shall have the power to
unas aaa a police force to be known as a Special County Police Depart-
ment.
§ 2. The governing body of each such county shall have power to
make provision for financing such police force in the county levy and
shall have further power to do all things necessary to establish, organize
and administer such police department and to carry out the provisions
of this act.
§ 3. Appointment of police officers in such police department shall
be made by the judge of the circuit court of such county upon request
and recommendation of the governing body of such county. Such officers
shall serve at the pleasure of the governing body. One of the officers
so appointed shall be designated as chief of police by the governing body
and shall have supervision of such police department. .
Police officers appointed pursuant to the provisions of this act shall
have all powers conferred on police officers by general law.
